FRESH: Future Research in Economic and Social History
FRESH (Future Research in Economic and Social History) Meeting
Saint Pierre d’Entremont, France
FRESH meetings are aimed at researchers in any field of economic and social history. The meetings build on the concept that (primarily young) scholars present their ongoing research at an early stage, i.e. normally before it becomes published as a working paper or the like, and certainly before it is published in books or journals. The main aim of the meetings is to gather researchers in a friendly and non-imposing environment where they can present their research and receive constructive criticism from their peers.
As something new, this FRESH meeting will have a theme: globalization in the very long run . Proposals are invited which look at all aspects of globalization or proto-globalization for any time period, for example the integration of commodity and factor markets, the social and political impact of globalization, the origins of globalization and the like. As well as the presenters themselves, the participants of this FRESH meeting will include some of the leading scholars in the field, for example Giovanni Federico, Karl Gunnar Persson and Kevin O’Rourke (others to be announced).
Please note that the FRESH meeting takes place immediately after the 8th biennial Conference of the European Historical Economics Society to be held 3-6 September 2009 in Geneva, Switzerland. This will allow people to save on air transportation. For people participating in both meetings, we will try to organize shared transportation between Geneva and Saint Pierre d’Entremont (about 1.5 hours drive).
The Alps FRESH Meeting is sponsored by the GLOBALEURONET “Globalizing Europe Economic History Network”.
